Meet scholarship winner, Grace!

What does movement mean to you? Many of us will answer this with, “My way of winding down,” or, “Something I can do that’s just for me.” But for our latest Barre Body Teacher Training scholarship winner, Grace, it’s about much more. “Movement is about my body and mind, releasing tension and finding calm,” Grace told us. “Through movement, I convey emotions, tell stories, and tap into my creativity. It’s self-care, prioritising my well-being and taking control of my physical and mental health. Movement celebrates my body’s capabilities, reminding me of its strength and resilience. It’s a journey of self-discovery, helping me uncover new aspects of myself and grow as an individual. Whether through Pilates, dance, or walking, movement is a fundamental part of who I am and how I experience the world.” Well, Grace, you’ve got us lost for words. Want to learn more about this exceptional winner? So did we …

Hi, Grace! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Grace and I am a South Indian woman, living in Adelaide South Australia. I am a human rights advocate, exercise lover, and an enthusiastic hobbyist. I also love spending lots of time with my partner, friends and family. I enjoy travelling, finding new spots to eat, and getting outdoors with friends. I am an aspiring human rights lawyer, and I am working toward making the world a safer place for everyone, but specifically children, the new generation.  In the last few years, I have been heavily involved in international volunteering for women and children from my community in India. I hope to return to my community soon, and continue my mission to protect these vulnerable individuals living in extremely dangerous conditions.

What is it that attracted you to Barre Body?

Barre Body’s Reformer Pilates attracted me because I seeking a holistic approach to fitness and well-being. Barre Body’s focus on integrating physical movement with mental awareness, low-impact high-intensity workouts, and mind-body connection resonates with those seeking a comprehensive approach. Small group or personalised training, innovative and dynamic methods, and expert instruction provide a supportive environment. Additionally, online flexibility allows for convenient access to content and workouts from anywhere, making it ideal for those with busy schedules. This blend of physical and mental wellness, combined with flexibility, makes Barre Body a compelling choice.

Why does the scholarship mean so much to you?

The scholarship means a lot to me as it provides financial freedom to pursue my passion for Pilates. It allows me to focus on learning and growth, and is a recognition of my hard work and dedication. Being part of a scholarship program creates a sense of community with like-minded individuals, fostering growth and encouragement. The scholarship enables me to invest in my physical and mental health, leading to a more balanced life. It also opens doors to new career paths and opportunities in the fitness industry, allowing me to make a positive impact on others through Pilates.

Can you tell us what movement means to you?

My body and mind, releasing tension and finding calm. Through movement, I convey emotions, tell stories, and tap into my creativity. It’s self-care, prioritising my well-being and taking control of my physical and mental health. Movement celebrates my body’s capabilities, reminding me of its strength and resilience. It’s a journey of self-discovery, helping me uncover new aspects of myself and grow as an individual. Whether through Pilates, dance, or walking, movement is a fundamental part of who I am and how I experience the world.

Movement to me is all about winding down and connecting with my body and mind. After a busy day at work, I can often feel overwhelmed and disconnected. Most days I am reminded that movement is a privilege, so I always approach exercise with gratitude and appreciation.

What are you most excited to get out of the training?

I’m most excited to gain a deeper understanding of the Barre Body Reformer method and its ability to transform bodies and minds. I’m looking forward to developing a strong foundation in Pilates techniques, learning how to modify exercises for different body types and abilities, and understanding how to create a supportive and inclusive class environment. I’m eager to gain confidence in teaching and cueing clients, expand my knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and discover new ways to challenge and engage clients. Additionally, I’m interested in learning how the Barre Body Reformer method can help balance hormones, leading to improved overall health and well-being. Ultimately, I aim to become a skilled and compassionate instructor, empowering others to achieve their fitness goals, find balance in their lives, and cultivate holistic wellness.

What impact do you hope that your story has on your community?

I hope that my story inspires and motivates others in my community to pursue their passions and interests, despite any challenges or obstacles they may face. I hope that my journey with Barre Body Reformer serves as a testament to the transformative power of movement and self-care, and encourages others to prioritise their physical and mental well-being. I also hope that my story helps to break down barriers and stigmas surrounding mental health and self-care, and creates a ripple effect of positivity and support throughout my community. I hope that my story helps to create a more inclusive, supportive, and empowered community, where individuals feel encouraged to take control of their health and well-being

Meet scholarship winner, Molly!

Think about a career that defines selflessness, love and care. Did your imagination conjure up “cancer nurse”? If so, you’re spot on. You’ve also just defined our latest scholarship winner, Molly Hayward. Driven by a deep desire to support and empower those around her, Molly is now adding another string to her supporting-others-bow, with a Pilates Teacher Training. Knowing first-hand the power of movement to support in mental health and balance, Molly is ready to bring this knowledge to her community. Molly, we couldn’t be more proud to have you in our Teacher Training family! Now, let’s get to know you …

Hi, Molly! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hey! I’m Molly, a 23-year-old cancer nurse who grew up in regional Victoria. Recently, I’ve made the move up north to the Gold Coast to fulfil my dream of living by the ocean. Nursing has always been my passion, driven by a deep desire to support and empower others. Outside of work, I love exploring different cultures, chilling at the beach, staying active, and spending quality time with loved ones.

What is it that attracted you to Barre Body?

Barre Body stands out as a leading training provider in the industry. What drew me in the most was the opportunity to complete the training online, right from the comfort of my own home, with accessible support from instructors, which is ideal for busy girls like myself! Barre Body’s welcoming community creates a encouraging atmosphere for all members and clients.

Why does the scholarship mean so much to you?

I never could have imagined I would be lucky enough to win this scholarship, so it means a lot. This scholarship will allow me to pursue my passion for Pilates and begin teacher training from home, so I can continue working and earning an income. I am beyond excited to expand my skillset beyond the medical world and integrate holistic wellness and movement into a professional space.

Can you tell us what movement means to you?

I haven’t always had the best relationship with my body and exercise, so I have come a long way in terms of self love and acceptance. I now move to feel strong and capable.

Movement to me is all about winding down and connecting with my body and mind. After a busy day at work, I can often feel overwhelmed and disconnected. Most days I am reminded that movement is a privilege, so I always approach exercise with gratitude and appreciation.

What are you most excited to get out of the training?
I am super excited to gain the knowledge and confidence needed to become a competent Pilates teacher, and to make others feel uplifted and empowered in their practice.

What impact do you hope that your story has on your community?

Maintaining a work-life balance is crucial. Nurturing your mind, body and soul is one of the most important things you will ever do, especially when we are exposed to high stress and emotional environments everyday. Life is too short not to do the things we love.

Does movement support your own work-life balance? Would you like to share that passion and purpose with others? We’d love to have you join our family. Check out all things Teacher Training right here, and reach out any time if we can help you on your journey.

Meet scholarship winner, Amy!

We’d like to think we know the power of movement. It can shift our mindset, our perspective, our day. But one person who knows this better than most? Amy-Michelle Southall. Amy is a career first-responder, and knows first-hand the power of movement to move through difficulty or trauma. Living regionally and with two young sons, Amy is a long-time member of Barre Body Online and now … She’s our latest Barre Body Teacher Training Scholarship winner! We couldn’t be more proud to have Amy in our family of trainees, and are honoured that someone with such a full, important and busy life has chosen to take the next step of her life with us. Amy, you’re amazing! Now, let’s meet this superwoman …

Hi, Amy! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi there, I’m Amy – mama of two beautiful boys from the Goldfields in WA. I’m a postpartum health coach, career first responder and lover of chocolate, dogs and faerie novels (IYKYK). My days off are spent moving my body, taking my boys to the park (and having a heart attack watching them be little daredevils on the playground!), having coffee with friends and brekkie dates with my husband.

What is it that attracted you to Barre Body?

Having been a member of Barre Body Online for a few months now, I love the non-judgmental vibe and the on-demand classes. All of the teachers I’ve watched so far have been bright and helpful, and their cues have been perfect. I love the fact that there are always regressions offered, so I can meet my body where it is on that particular day.

Why does the scholarship mean so much to you?

Being a mum, plus working full time in a regional area means that I don’t have the option to take a week off to attend an in-person course (although I’d love the mini-holiday!). The ability to complete the course, in the small pockets of spare time I have, purely online, makes becoming a Pilates teacher accessible to me. I feel honoured to receive this scholarship, and I can’t wait to be fully trained so I can start serving my community.

Can you tell us what movement means to you?

Movement has always been a part of my life, albeit in different ways in different phases of my life. It’s also intrinsically linked to my mental health – when I’m moving, I’m happy. Having been a first responder for over a decade now, trauma is unfortunately an inevitable part of my life, and movement helps me process it in a healthy way. Had a bad day – move. Feeling grumpy – move. Movement is, in my view, a type of therapy (but definitely no replacement for actual therapy!). I always finish a movement session feeling better, mentally and physically, than when I started.

From the perspective of being a mum, movement is my time out from the chaos of chasing two toddlers around. It’s also what I want to normalise around my boys. I want to show them how movement is a non-negotiable part of taking care of yourself – a way to stay, as my 3 year old loves to say, “big and strong.”

Movement is also my insurance policy against injury. Having previously suffered a ruptured disc in my back (from picking by toddler up from the floor, no less!), I want to do everything I can to prevent that from happening again, and Pilates movements are the perfect way to mobilise my spine without aggravating anything.

What are you most excited to get out of the training?

I’m looking forward to learning all about anatomy and alignment, as well as developing my own teaching style along the way. The combinations are endless, and I can’t wait to use my creativity to develop some fun Pilates flows.

What impact do you hope that your story has on your community?

I want to show that movement is a powerful tool for processing stress and trauma, especially for first responders. I also want to inspire other mums to put themselves first for once – being strong, happy and less stressed out makes the hard days so much easier!

Does movement support your own wellbeing? Would you like to share that passion and purpose with others? We’d love to have you join our family. Check out all things Teacher Training right here, and reach out any time if we can help you on your journey.

You’ve brought home your very own Reformer. Now what?

Benefits of reformer Pilates from the comfort of your home

You bit the bullet and purchased your very own Reformer Pilates machine to have at home. Woohoo! (We like your style.) Now you’ve unboxed your beauty, what comes next? We’re here to help.

There’s no denying the power of Reformer Pilates. Just ask Harry Styles. And if you can experience all those benefits from the comfort of your own living room? Well, we’d say that’s living the dream.

So if you’ve managed to snap up a Reformer Pilates machine of your own – whether it’s a Barre Body machine, an Aldi Reformer or anything in between – you’re in luck! Your movement practice, your body and your soul are about to enter their next era. Once the unboxing is done (and hopefully documented on your socials), it’s time to get to work. Here are our top tips on kicking off your own at-home Reformer Pilates practice.

Find your space.

Modern Reformer Pilates machines are streamlined and space-efficient (some will even slide under your bed). Even so, finding the right space for your Reformer is key to making it a joy to use. Pop it in front of your television for easy access to your online classes (or for some sneaky core work while watching the latest episode of True Detective). Place it at the end of your bed for a daily reminder to hop on each morning. Or even situate it on your back deck (undercover, of course) to enjoy your movement while surrounded by the sounds of nature. Wherever it ends up, make sure you have everything you need nearby. A screen (to watch along with your favourite classes), a water bottle and a speaker for your favourite tunes are must-haves.

Get familiar with your machine.

This is your Pilates Reformer machine, so it’s time to make it feel like home! Take a deep dive into your instruction manual, set up the machine to suit your unique body, and get familiar with all the elements. The straps will be the best place to start, as you’ll be calling upon them in each class you take. Play around and have fun with it – this is going to be your new best friend!

Find your online Reformer classes.

Sure, you can move around on your at-home Reformer Pilates machine yourself, creating sequences and flows based on how you’re feeling. (In fact, that’s one of our favourite things to do.) But if you really want to take your workouts up a notch and make the most of this new machine you have in your hot little hands, it’s time to turn yourself over to the professionals. Signing up for an online workout subscription is your fastest way to gain access to world-class instructors and classes, from wherever you’ve set up your Reformer. At Barre Body Online, that’s what we do best. We have hundreds of classes available on-demand (with more released each week), including a full catalogue of classes to be taken on your at-home Pilates Reformer machine. Taught by the best in the business from our home studio Bende in Byron Bay, you’re in the very best hands. With a 14-day free trial and workouts that cover Reformer, Pilates, Barre, Yoga, Strength and so much more, what are you waiting for?

Save your playlists.

The only thing better than a Reformer Pilates workout? A Reformer Pilates workout set to an epic playlist. At Barre Body Online, that’s part of our specialty – creating beats that make you want to move. Here are some of our favourites to add to your collection – 40-Minute Feeling Strong, 30-Minute Burner, and 45-Minute Reformer Fit

Schedule in your workouts.

You know what they say. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. While we personally think “failing” is a little harsh (if not impossible) when it comes to Reformer workouts, we can get behind a weekly plan. Schedule your Reformer workouts into your diary like they’re an important meeting. A meeting with yourself, putting your wellbeing at the forefront of your priorities? We think that’s the best type of meeting.

Take your love a step further.

If you’ve found yourself working out on your at-home Reformer regularly, falling in love with your movement practice and thinking, “Sheesh, I wish I could have a little more of this in my life,” then it may be time to think about Teacher Training. Not just designed for those looking to become an instructor, a Reformer Pilates Teacher Training course (done 100% from home!) will see you deepening your own practice and taking your skills to the next level. The fact that you graduate with a shiny certificate that allows you to teach from anywhere in the world (including that living room of yours)? That’s just the icing on the cake.

Get moving with your at-home Reformer.

With a Barre Body Online subscription, you’ll receive access to hundreds of workouts to suit whatever your body is craving – from Reformer, to Barre, to Yoga and everything in between. With a 14-day free trial, is it time to dive in?

Meet scholarship winner, Emma-Jane!

If you’ve ever wondered about the power of movement, allow yourself to be convinced. Our latest spectacular Teacher Training scholarship recipient – Emma-Jane Trudgett – is a living, breathing example of what movement can do. With a background in childhood education and dance, she’s now all about paving the way forward for women too. Conquering their goals and embracing their own personal journeys? That’s just part of Emma-Jane’s magic. We could not be more proud to have Emma-Jane in our Teacher Training program, and are already so inspired by her story. We cannot wait to see what she conquers next!

Hi, Emma! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hey there! I’m Emma-Jane Trudgett, a Wiradjuri woman proudly calling Dubbo, NSW, home. By day, I’m the Head of Junior School at Fierce Performing Arts—my dream job and second home. Preschool dance is my other passion, and I’m currently living that dream too. While I’ve been a primary school teacher for my entire adult life, my heart beats strongest in the realm of movement. Dance has been my constant companion throughout my life, and after shedding 50kg, I’ve dived headfirst into the world of women’s fitness. My mission? To use dance and fitness to light a fire under other women, pushing them to embrace their journeys and conquer their goals. I have two crazy children Frankie and Dusty who keep me on my toes and love dance and movement too.

What is it that attracted you to Barre Body?

Barre Body is more than just a fitness haven for me; it’s a soul connection. I have been teaching barre for four incredible years transformed not only my body but my entire lifestyle. What drew me to Barre Body was its unwavering inclusivity and sheer professionalism. I found them on Instagram along my teaching journey and the energy they radiate through social media is beautiful.

Why does the scholarship mean so much to you?

This scholarship is my golden ticket, a chance to grow and share my unique journey. It’s not just about refining my skills; it’s about pouring my heart, story, and infectious enthusiasm into empowering other women. This opportunity means the world to me, as it opens doors to impact lives and create ripples of positive change.

Can you tell us what movement means to you?

Movement isn’t just a part of my life; it’s my heartbeat. It’s deeply ingrained in my Wiradjuri roots, an intrinsic part of who I am. From the early days of expressing myself through dance, it became my sanctuary. As life unfolded, movement evolved into my mental escape, my sacred “me time.” Now, it’s my journey towards the best version of myself, setting an example for my kids, and embracing health and self-expression daily.

What are you most excited to get out of the training?

Brimming with excitement, I look forward to unlocking a new skill set. At 120kg, anxiety and low confidence were my shadows. Becoming Pilates-trained isn’t just about personal growth; it’s about offering a haven where women can shed their inhibitions, move freely, and soak in positivity. It’s about creating a space where every woman feels seen, valued, and empowered.

What impact do you hope that your story has on your community?

My dream is to be the spark that lights up other women’s dreams. Being a Pilates teacher once felt like an impossible feat, reserved for a certain “look.” I’m here to shatter that illusion, shouting from the rooftops that health and fitness are about more than appearances. I want to carve out a community where every woman feels confident, happy, and ready to embark on her unique journey towards becoming her unapologetically best self.

Is Pilates your passion? Have you always aspired to be an expert teacher? We’d love to have you join our family. Check out all things Teacher Training right here, and reach out any time if we can help you on your journey.

Meet scholarship winner, Cassie!

You know what we love in the new year? A new, great story to read! And boy oh boy, do we have one today. We’re introducing you to our newest scholarship winner, Cassie. With a proud Yorta Yorta heritage and a history of playing competitive sport, Cassie has a passion for movement that has inspired us immensely (and has no doubt inspired the primary school students she teaches!). She recently found Pilates and has completed her 100th class (woohoo!), and now joins our Teacher Training community to take her practice to the next level. Let’s get to know the incredible Cassandra Tye!

Hi, Cassie! Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Cassie (she/her) and I am 27 years old and currently reside in Brisbane. I have a degree in Health and Physical Education and Primary Education and currently work as a full-time Primary teacher. I grew up in Hobart, Tasmania and am Yorta Yorta on my Dad’s side and Greek on my Mum’s. I have a long history of sport having played soccer for 14 years and an on again/off again relationship with HIIT workouts. After multiple injuries I decided to swap the rough and tumble life for the low impact sports that are Pilates and Yoga.

What is it that attracted you to Barre Body?
I had heard great things from Barre Body alumni who raved about the online course. It seemed like a supportive and inclusive community and I loved the opportunity to participate using an online platform.

Why does the scholarship mean so much to you?
It has given me the opportunity to pursue something I felt was just a thought or dream. I am so grateful that I was provided this scholarship so I could follow a passion!

Can you tell us what movement means to you?
Movement has become such a valuable and vital part of my life after neglecting it for many of my adult years. Making it a priority to incorporate movement into my day has had a flow on benefit on my overall health (especially mental health). I find that I have more energy during the day when working with 24 5-year-olds as a teacher and also suffer from less injuries.

What are you most excited to get out of the training?
Building a community and growing and expanding on my own practice and fitness. I think that there is a lot of wiggle room for creativity to make my own brand and put a personal spin onto it.

What impact do you hope that your story has on your community?
To give things that are scary and seem out of reach a go! People want to help support your dreams and change is as good as a holiday.

Oh, Cassie. We are so proud to be a part of your change, and that you’ve chosen Barre Body as your new home of movement. We are honoured to have you with us. Follow along with Cassie’s journey on Instagram right here.
