Get to know Caitlin, our Melbourne studio lead

Regular at our Flinders Lane classes? Here’s a face you’ll soon find familiar: Caitlin, our new Melbourne Studio Lead. With a background in Ballet, and an obsession with bubble tea, her classes will keep you on your toes – in all the best ways.

What’s your favourite class to teach?

Barre and stretch. I’m a contemporary dancer and have been practicing yoga/meditation for almost 15 years now. So I love to get everyone moving dynamically through their whole bodies and then slow things down for people to feel and breathe.

What’s your ideal post-class meal/snack/drink/treat?

I have my local haunts around the Flinders Lane studio. I’m currently obsessed with bubble tea (Nuttea and Gotcha are my faves). After my Friday night class, I love meeting friends for a wine at Cathedral Coffee in the Nicholas building where there’s always an exhibition opening or performance to catch.

What’s your go-to song to get you pumped up for class?

For me, it’s more of a song to get me centred and in my body before class. I’ll always meditate for a minute, or at least take a few deep breaths, in silence. Though if I need to get pumped up for a strength or cardio class, anything by Peaches gets me going!

What’s the last good book you read?

Too many to choose from – I’m a massive reader! ‘The Body Keeps The Score’ by Bessel Van Der Kolk and ‘Hunger’ by Roxane Gay were enlightening reads for anyone interested in how tensions and traumas (big and small) are stored in the body.

What can we expect to experience from your class?

With my background in both Ballet and meditation, expect a dancerly class with lots of mindful, flowing movements. Also, expect lots of smiles and warm conversations. I love hearing what’s brought people to class so I can meaningfully support them in deepening their relationship with movement and embodiment.
