What’s so great about Yin?

Barre Yin is the most beautiful restorative practice to complement your traditional Barre Body classes. As Yin is still quite uncommon in studios, we thought we would delve a little into why this practice is so wonderful, and the benefits it can have on your body, mind, and soul.

What is Yin?

Barre Yin is derived from Yin Yoga, which is a style of yoga that targets the deep connective tissues of the body, to help regulate our flow of energy in the body. The postures you’d do in class are often more passive, held for a long time, and are mainly practiced on the floor. Yin Yoga is unique to regular yoga practice, as you’re asked to relax into the postures and soften your muscles. While yang-like yoga practices work more on the exterior of your body, Yin offers much deeper access to what’s inside. The time you’ll spend in the postures is much like time spent in meditation.

What are the benefits of Yin?

Yin is a wonderful way to maintain flexibility, and also a great way to connect with what’s going on inside your body. With long holds and a meditative-style practice, you might come up with emotions or sensations that you wouldn’t otherwise experience in a fast-paced class. The benefits of Yin include:

  • Calming and balancing to the mind and body
  • Regulates energy in the body
  • Increases mobility in the body, especially the joints and hips
  • Lowering of stress levels (no one needs that)
  • Greater stamina
  • Better lubrication and protection of joints
  • More flexibility in joints & connective tissue

  • A great coping for anxiety and stress
  • Better ability to sit for meditation
  • Ultimately you will have a better Yang practice

How long will it take to experience results?

You won’t feel a burn after class, but after three to four sessions, you will likely experience shifts in like more open hips, a more relaxed body, and a calm mind. The perfect complement to your existing Barre Body practice.
