Get to know scholarship winner, Leslie
You know what we love more than a Pilates lover? A zombie loving Pilates lover. What can we say? We like our friends to be interesting. Our newest friend – Leslie Hudson – is just that. The latest recipient of the Barre Body Teacher Training scholarship, Leslie is a mother of two who is diving deep into her passion for movement. We couldn’t be more inspired and know you’re going to be too. Let’s get to know Leslie!
Hi, Leslie! Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m Leslie, I am a 31-year-old, Aboriginal woman & a mother of two. I have recently shaken up my whole life & left my 9-5 job to be a full-time mother & to pursue my passions. I believe as women we can step into our power when we learn who we are, how to flow with our cycle & stop letting fear get in our way of who we were meant to be.
In my quiet time you can find me watching zombie movies or reading a book.
What is it that attracted you to Barre Body?
The first thing I noticed was Barre Body are the trainers of the Pilates accounts I was following.
I love the seamless flow of the classes. It also looked like a great group of dedicated, fun women living their best life. I could feel the passion coming off the screen and it was very inspiring.
Why does the scholarship mean so much to you?
I have loved Pilates since I was 16 but didn’t think I could make it as a career. As I am no longer letting fear get in my way, I decided to make the leap and go for it. I saw the opportunity for the scholarship and before I knew it – I had applied. When I received the Approval email, I was over the moon, it feels like a major sign that I am making the right choices and on the right path. I am one step closer to being able to empower my community to go for the things they want, to heal through movement while building their mind body connection.
Can you tell us what movement means to you?
Movement is Life – it’s all energy, there is no good or bad energy, just what is useful here and now and what is no longer useful in your current situation.
The feeling of being ‘stuck’ and not knowing where to start. Movement is key – move the stagnant energy that is causing the imbalance. Release the energy that is not serving you and fill that space with peace, joy, compassion, and gratitude.
I suffered post-natal depression and I highly credit movement as a major healing factor that often gets overlooked.
What are you most excited to get out of the training?
I am so excited to learn from such a well-established industry leader. To have my start in the Pilates world with such a joyful supportive environment. I am looking forward to taking in all you have to teach and bring it to my community. I ultimately hope this means I can travel with my family and work remotely from the wonderful views Australia has to offer.
What impact do you hope that your story will have on our community?
I have this dream of helping women connect through movement. A sacred space where they feel safe to slow down, move and build their mind-body connection. I hope to show women how transformative Pilates can be.
Well, Leslie, we think you’ve found yourself in the right family. We are so happy to have you.
