Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about our training? You’ve come to the right place.

That’s perfectly fine. We’ve had people from all walks of life wanting to become teachers. If you have no experience at all, you can absolutely do this training.

Online Training: you have 9 months to complete the course (6 months for the online modules + 3 months to finish your practical hours and assessment submission). You can finish in as little as 1 month if studying full-time, though most take 3-6 months.

In-Person Training: you have up to 6 months after your in-studio training to complete your online revision, practical hours and assessment submission. You may complete this in as little as 1 month.

We recommend doing as many hours as possible in-person at a studio(s) of your choice. If you are in a location or circumstance where you are unable to attend a physical studio, you can do your participation and observation hours via an online studio, or some hours in-person and some online. If you are using an online studio, we recommend Barre Body Online.

To gain your certification, you will need to complete the following:

  • 100% of your online course modules (or if training in-person, 47 contact hours in-studio + post course online revision modules)
  • Participation hours
  • Observation hours
  • Practice teaching hours
  • 1000 word essay (we ask questions – you just answer them!)
  • 45 – 60 minute filmed class video in the style you are learning (with 3+ participants)
  • Written class plan to support your assessment video

This will be assessed by our team of teacher trainers. Don’t worry if assessments make you nervous – our course is designed to prepare you to pass with flying colours (although we may ask you to resubmit your assessment if it doesn’t meet the criteria.)

We are here for you every step of the way. You can email our amazing Trainers anytime, post questions below each online course module, attend our weekly live mentoring sessions, or reach out to our incredible Teacher Training Community group.

We recommend the following equipment for each course:

  • Pilates Mat – Long resistance band (medium) and Pilates ball
  • Barre – 1kg weights and Pilates ball
  • Reformer – Reformer machine and a box (an at-home reformer or frequent access to a reformer is required for the Online Reformer Training; reach out to us at teach@barrebody.com.au for recommendations)

The above is recommended as we use these equipment pieces throughout the course. Other “nice to have” pieces of equipment can also be used when starting to get creative: sliders, yoga block, looped bands, 2kg weights, Pilates circle, ankle weights.

No. Barre Body’s world-class courses equip you to become a certified Pilates or barre instructor in Australia and internationally without the need for government accreditation. Our training is recognised by the industry, ensuring you can work and be insured as an instructor. With Barre Body, you gain the skills and recognition to inspire others through movement, leveraging our reputation for excellence.

Our courses have been registered by leading health and fitness bodies around the world and if you wish to be registered with any of the associations here, you are able to claim professional development points upon certification of our courses. However, membership of these associations is optional and you do not need to be a part of them in order to teach.

Yes! As Barre Body Courses are nationally and internationally recognised, you can legally teach in most countries around the world.

There are no prerequisites for our courses. All of our trainings are extremely comprehensive and will cover everything you need to become a skilled instructor.

We do generally recommend undertaking Pilates Mat or Barre Teacher Training prior to the Reformer Training, as Reformer relies heavily on your verbal cueing and understanding of the machine and is therefore a more challenging course. That said, plenty of students still choose to start with Reformer.

Absolutely! We integrate anatomy into all of our certification courses. By teaching anatomy visually and in application to the exercises, we find it improves learning outcomes, is more fun, and ensures you are getting the deepest understanding of how anatomy relates to the repertoire, sequences and flows to make you the best instructor possible.

Yes. You can find all pricing options, including payment plans, on the course webpages.

We offer a variety of course bundles, which provide the best value (hello discounts and bonuses!) and certify you in multiple areas.

Upon completion of your course, you will be a Certified Instructor in the style you trained in (Pilates Mat, Reformer or Barre).

There is no Australian or global regulatory or governing body for Pilates, so in most countries you can start teaching as soon as you complete your course and get insurance. To get insurance, you will need your Barre Body Certificate, first aid and CPR.

There are a number of industry bodies that recognise our courses, though you do not need to be part of these or any associations to teach or own a studio around the world. Some of these are: ESSA (AUS), FA (AUS), ACE (USA), NPCP (USA), NASM (USA), AFAA (USA), ISSA (USA), CANFITPRO (CAN). You can see a full list of our accreditations for each course here.

Both online and in-person are wonderful ways to complete the training. You will receive the same level of support and guidance, and graduate with the same level of knowledge and expertise with both. The biggest consideration is how you learn best. The online training is more suitable for those with busy and/or restrictive schedules, and independent learners who like to study in their own time. Or for someone who wants to dive in straight away. The in-person training is more suitable for those who prefer immersing themselves with no distractions, and enjoy face to face contact with their instructors and fellow students.

If we haven’t answered your question above, feel free to email us and we will respond as soon as we can (Mon-Fri).
