Spotlight on scholarship winner, Solana
Google the word “inspiration” and you’ll probably stumble upon Solana Schumacher. Born and bred in Argentina, the mum-of-two has spent a lifetime learning through mindful movement – refusing to let language or logistical barriers prevent her from reaching her dreams. Here, the 2022 Teacher Training Scholarship winner shares her undying love for barre, and why she can’t wait to add to her (already impressive) skillset as a certified instructor. Give it up for Solana!
Welcome, Solana! Can you share some snippets about yourself?
My name is Solana Schumacher. I’m 35-years-old and I’m a certified Pilates instructor. I was born in Argentina, and I currently live in Costa Rica. I’m a mum of two boys, two cats and a puppy. Since as long as I can remember I’ve done Gymnastics, Ballet, Yoga and Pilates, but it was in my early 20s that I decided I wanted to dedicate my life to sharing how powerful movement is.
We love that. Being based so far away, how in the world did you find out about Barre Body, and what is it that drew you to the brand?
Because I live in a tiny country with limited resources, I rely a lot on the internet to keep growing as a teacher, searching for the best instructors, studios, training and classes. I stumbled upon Barre Body and was immediately convinced I wanted to be part of it in whichever way I could, so I started taking online classes, following all the tips and tricks I saw on Instagram and not missing a single Free Friday.
Honestly, same. Free Fridays are our favourite for a reason. Now, why does the scholarship mean so much to you?
Being chosen for the scholarship is such an honor and huge opportunity for me. I’ve taken a lot of Barre classes all around the world through my computer, but the Barre Body method is the most professional, complete, inclusive, safe, fun and effective method out there. I know I’ll finish the course being an excellent instructor.
There’s no doubt in our minds about that! What is it about movement that you love so much?
I’ve always loved movement and can’t live without it. It’s my hobby, my therapy and my passion. I love helping people find their strength, confidence and guide them in the journey of self-love – all while having fun.
Is there an aspect of the training that most excites you?
To be honest I’m excited about everything! Learning transitions, new moves, how to cue, diving deep into the method and teachers that inspire me so much. I see an Instagram post and get excited about trying a move, I take a class and feel motivated to teach my own. Barre is such a fun and safe way to exercise, and I can’t wait to learn from the best! As you can tell, I’m a total fan.
Well, we’re flattered. We’re a total fan of YOU! What impact do you hope that your story has on your community?
I hope when people in my community hear my story they feel inspired to think outside of the boundaries of their own country, language and resources. Being hundreds of kilometres away in a tiny, tiny country is not a limitation to keep growing, learning, and becoming better in whichever profession you chose.
Solana, we can’t wait to watch where this training takes you. We just know, there’s big (huge!) things ahead.
