Spotlight on scholarship winner, Naomi

If you’re after a story that makes you want to seize the day, we recommend Naomi Cowper’s. After overcoming breast cancer, this mum-of-two made it her mission to build back her physical and mental strength while moving in ways that light her up – be it walking her (exceptionally cute) dog Henry, ice-skating or doing squats. Yup, inspiring doesn’t quite cut it when describing our 2022 Teacher Training Scholarship winner. Heart strings, you’ve been warned…

Oh hey, Naomi. We’re so glad you’re here. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a mum to two little kids, which is my greatest pleasure and honour. We have so much fun and love. We also have a beautiful dog, Henry.

This year I have been learning to ice skate/dance, which is wonderfully challenging and a lovely passion. I have given myself the ‘freedom’ this year to build my strength in all aspects, and I am feeling amazing!

Last year I received various treatments, (5 months chemo, mastectomy and IV antibody drugs) to kill the cancerous cells that had taken residence in my left boob. I am so grateful that the treatments have been very successful! I am extremely lucky.

Previously, my job was a scrub nurse in the operating theatre. Prior to that, I was driving trucks all around QLD with my beautiful cattle dog, Rixy. She was a true love of mine – we had such wonderful times together!

What a story. What a woman! What is it that attracted you to Barre Body? Why does the scholarship mean so much to you?

I came across Barre Body through seeking to improve my posture, strength and desire to dance for fitness. I love the flow and stability that Barre provides.I am honoured to have received this scholarship, financially it helps so much. (Thank you!)

Thank YOU – we wouldn’t have it any other way. And what is your relationship with movement like?

When I think of movement, I think ‘free flow’. The ability to move through your entire body with ease and without resistance.

Mmmm, sounds beautiful. What in particular about the training are you most looking forward to?

I am very excited to gain the knowledge to teach, as well as the ability to assist others with enhancing their balance, flexibility, strength and body appreciation.

So well said. And what impact do you hope that your story has on your community?

I hope that my impact on the community is inspiring. More so, I hope that I can help many individuals to feel the best they can, live their best, in joy and bliss.

Naomi, you’re so deserving of this scholarship. We can’t wait to see all the incredible things you do as a certified Barre instructor.

Is Barre your first love? Are you looking to become an expert teacher but have obstacles – financial pressures, mental blocks, time restraints – in the way? We’ve got you.
